We are a group of leading domestic and international business law firms, based in Thailand. We offer academically gifted law students the opportunity to learn from experienced lawyers in many different practice areas.
Our internship program offers a select number of university students (and university graduates) the opportunity to gain exposure to a thriving law practice. In order to sharpen your legal skills, you will work alongside reputable and talented lawyers and experience an inclusive culture that encourages contribution and helps you to start fulfilling your potential. You will be assigned to help handle a variety of client cases. Work experience cannot be taught at law school. Effective lawyers are built, not born. The internship will focus on the concept of ‘training by doing’, as we believe that a hands-on approach can only give long term benefit to the intern. The activities of the legal intern will include:
- conducting basic legal research and gathering facts;
- preparing written advice;
- drafting contracts, agreements etc;
- learning to create rational, reasonable arguments and making the right decisions;
- gathering knowledge necessary for problem solving and applying the law to fix client problems;
- being present at court hearings; and
- various other tasks that may assist SCL Law Group lawyers in their duties.
Local Internship Program
All of our interns participate directly in real cases involving a wide range of legal issues, including conducting legal research, legal writing in Thai and English and analysis. The intern will discover how a claimant's attorney gathers their proof for critical pre-trial rulings and for trial.
Foreign Law Student International Internships
We are happy to give the opportunity for foreign law students to undertake unpaid internships at our firm. If you would like to apply for an internship at our firm and you are a foreign law student, please read the following requirements:
- You must possess a good understanding of written and spoken English, because you must be able to communicate in English at a level where you will be understood by attorneys and be able to perform basic research.
- Please apply at least nine months prior to the date you wish to start and inform us which areas of law are of interest to you.
- Your internship will be time consuming. Expect to devote a lot of time and energy to it.
Eligibility Criteria for the Internship Program
The following eligibility criteria apply to both the local and foreign law student internship programs. Applicants must:
- possess a university degree or be in the final stages of their university studies;
- be proficient in English (local and foreign interns) and Thai (local intern), both written and oral. Knowledge of other languages is an asset; and
- possess an above average writing ability.
Internship Required Documents
Interested applicants must submit the following documents, in English, to the program coordinator:
- a covering letter stating the reasons for applying;
- copies of university and other degrees/diplomas, and a list of courses taken; and
- a copy of the applicant’s passport in the case of foreign internship and a copy of the applicant’s ID card in the case of local internship.
We encourage law students who have a strong desire to learn, grow, roll their sleeves up and work hard, to apply for an internship. If you are interested in joining a rapidly expanding, talented and experienced team, then don’t hesitate in writing to us
